Chase Riggs and Stephanie Taylor were named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, by Mrs. Mary Strickland, Principal of the Faith West Academy High School.

The valedictorian, Chase, is the son of Cole and Mary Riggs.  Chase not only excelled in the classroom where he took Advanced Placement and Honors courses and had a four year GPA of 4.65, but also participated in numerous extracurricular activities. During his senior year, Chase served as National Honor Society vice-president, a member of Mu Alpha Theta, and played lead positions for the Eagle baseball club.

Chase will receive the Texas Education Agency Honor Graduate Certificate for highest ranking graduate in the FWA senior class of 2009.  He received a scholarship offer of $58,000 from Mary Hardin-Baylor, Belton, TX where he will attend classes in the fall.

The salutatorian, Stephanie, is the daughter of Bill and Cheryl Taylor.  Stephanie was enrolled in Advanced Placement and Honors classes during her high school career and received an overall GPA of 4.53.  She was active as a cheerleader, varsity basketball player,  a member of the National Honor Society (historian during her senior year),  ComedySportz, and had lead roles in school drama productions: Oklahoma, Cinderella, and  Diary of Anne Frank.

Stephanie was the recipient of $144,000 in scholarship offers. Stephanie hasn’t decided which college she will attend as she considers offers from Baylor University, Abilene Christian University, and Mary Hardin-Baylor. Her plans are to major in International Relations and work in national security and foreign affairs.

Both Chase and Stephanie exemplify the character and achieved the academic requirements that define them as outstanding 2009 graduating seniors of Faith West Academy in Katy, Texas.
