Katy Christian Ministries continues fundraising efforts for Red Apple

During the first full week of Aug., Katy Christian Ministries distributed school supplies to 839 school children through its Red Apple School Supply Drive. The event assisted registered Katy ISD students, Pre-K to 12th grade, whose families are clients of KCM.

Giving back to the community is at the heart of KCM’s mission. Without the support that KCM has received over the years, projects like the Red Apple School Supply Drive are impossible. It is with this in mind, that KCM asks our neighbors for their assistance. This year in particular has created a high-demand for programs like Red Apple.

Because of COVID-19, the need for supplies is greater than ever before, as widespread loss of jobs and income across our community affects access to financial resources in so many households. As classrooms begin to reopen and some students head back to their schools or remain at home to continue their education, having access to proper school supplies is critical. KCM cannot run programs like Red Apple without financial support from our passionate and giving donors. It is during these times of crisis when demand is at its peak. KCM always strives to help as many of our neighbors as possible, but without help from this generous community, we can’t.

KCM Social Services director Vickie Bernal asks for the community to continue their generous support of KCM and specifically of Red Apple as the need is greater than ever before.

“Red Apple is one of the most important events that KCM annually holds. Without Red Apple hundreds of children enter the school year ill-equipped to succeed,” said Bernal. “Seeing children struggling is heartbreaking. We must provide a strong foundation for every child to flourish in the educational system. I am beyond grateful for the generosity that this community has shown to KCM, but we have to keep going. Red Apple fundraising will continue until Aug. 31. I ask the community to continue their support so that we can uplift the children in our own backyards.”
