It’s easy to blame everyone else when we’re not as happy as we want to be. But as Dr. Steven Hotze says, we are the only ones responsible for our own health.
Hotze, a physician, author, and speaker, and founder of Hotze Health & Wellness, Hotze Vitamins and Physicians Preference Pharmacy international, has been practicing medicine for 44 years. In that time, he’s experienced an evolution in his thinking that informs his practice and keeps his patients in prime health, even during our global pandemic.
That evolution began on the day he graduated medical school. His father looked him in the eyes and commanded, “Don’t poison your patients like other doctors do.” What he meant is that too many doctors turn to prescription medications as the first line of defense, when changes in lifestyle could do a much better job of keeping patients healthy.
Hotze never forgot his father’s directive, and in fact, was reminded of it at various points in his career. While he practiced surgery, he noticed a “cut, prescribe, or both” philosophy that dominated the mindset of that specialty area. When his own dad complained of chest pains and a blockage was discovered in his main artery, the insisted-upon angioplasty blew open the artery, requiring further surgery. This just inflamed his father’s ire, driving home the message that maybe surgery and drugs are not the solutions to every problem.
His dad continued to prod him, especially after he read Dr. Julian Whitaker’s books, Reversing Heart Disease and Guide to Natural Healing. He asked Dr. Hotze, “What vitamins should I be taking,” and Hotze’s reply was, “I’m a doctor. What do I know about vitamins?” Hearing those words come out of his own mouth was sobering to Hotze. “Doctors aren’t trained in vitamins. They’re trained in pharmaceuticals and procedures.”
So Hotze began researching, and the information he gleaned was enough to change his entire way of thinking and to guide him toward his very successful health and wellness practice. A Christian-based business owner, Hotze promotes enthusiasm, which broken down into its word parts means “being filled with God.” He believes if you attack life with enthusiasm and positivity, your light will shine to others, who will want to know more.
So with great enthusiasm, Hotze coaches his patients through wellness. “Once you get a handle on your physical, mental, and spiritual health,” he explained, “you will be a happier person. It really is that simple.”
He says that people who are “sick and tired” feel this way because of declining hormone levels as they age. So a significant portion of his practice is focused on regulating and replenishing hormone levels in both men and women.
In addition, he stresses healthy eating as the very foundation of good health. He offers exercise and diet programs and yeast programs for a healthy intestinal tract. He also provides natural thyroid hormones and adrenal support for stress.
“The two goals in my business are to strengthen your immune system and increase your energy level,” he said. During the pandemic, this is especially important. “No one in our practice has been hospitalized for Covid. The small number of our patients who contracted it quickly recovered. The best way to fight off a virus-like Covid is to be within your ideal body weight, eat healthy, exercise, and take your minerals and vitamins.”
Having Hotze and his team to coach you through it is, of course, beneficial and could be an actual lifesaver. But Hotze is quick to point out that the heavy lifting is up to you. “You don’t have your doctor, your insurance company, your spouse, or your government to blame for your health. You only have you. Take charge of your health. We will help get you there, but ultimately, it is 100 percent your choice.”
